It picks up water and showers the top and sides of your outdrive when on plane. The main benefit is to keep the gear oil cool. It also helps to keep mineral deposits off the outdrive. Most people consider them to be cheap insurance. The only cost about $100.

When your on plane most of your outdrive is out of the water. The drive shower is a tube that comes from the cavitation plate to the top of the drive. Small holes in the tube direct water on to the top of the drive which keeps the gear fluid cooler. This will hopefully keep the gear lube from breaking down and possible gear damage.

The only con’s I know of is a possible loss of mph or prop cavitation. The pick up sticking too far below the cavitation plate usually causes this. This is a link to the drive showers I use. They are not as highly polished as some of the other manufacturers but have what I believe to be a better pickup angle.

I don't know how to post a link but try innovativemarine.net.

I have use these on a couple of my boats and can say that they absolutely stop the dried scummy lake water build up so it must be doing something.

The new models have an adjustable pickup height and its curved to help the water flow. They look good too but I think they cost $180 now.

Had a white chauk type deposit on my upper caused by heat. After I installed the showers had no more chauk, reduced heat problem solved!

Scott, thats from the water drops on the drive steaming off and melting the lake crap onto the drive.
