Default Confused on running new fuel line...

After recently replacing the vent, fill, and delivery fuel lines on my Scarab 1, I've decided to go ahead and replace my pump----> QJet line as well. The old line that was made for it (copper looking metal line bent into shape) broke as I was removing the carb to send to Cliff High Performance for rebuild. I decided to replace the line with some extra A1, 3/8 line I have. My idea was to grab a few barbs and clamps for the connections.

I can't seem to find a barb online or in stores that is the right thread/hose size for my setup. The connectors off both the carb and pump are 5/8-18 and the hose size is 3/8. I know I'm likely overlooking something here but wanted to check with the board for some feedback. I am finding the reverse size, 3/8 thread, 5/8 hose - https://nuwavemarine.com/sierra-bras...-hose-18-8041/

I did order the factory length 25" line that was meant to support the mechanical pump (I've converted to electric) and it was far too long so I returned it. I was hoping to find one shorter but I'm not seeing anything online. This was the hose I ordered: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fuel-Line-H...97.m4902.l9144

Thanks in advance!!

Heath

You’re looking for 3/8 flare by hose barb, different from 3/8 npt and hard to find

3/8" inverted flare is what is on a lot of fuel fittings. The threads measure closer to 5/8" . Auto parts stores have them . 3/8" inverted flare x 3/8" hose barb. My local O'reillys' has them but the counter people don't know it . What a surprise! .. I'll bet Mcmaster carr has them

Believe it or not, some steel lines are still available from Merc.
If interested, Click here;

Once you are in section for your engine, click on fuel pump and filter. Line will be in that section.

So 3/8 inverted flare x 3/8 hose barb will work?!?!? And I can just walk into most part stores to find!

Heading to grab them asap!

Thank you

Yes. Fitting in carb and in fuel pump set up for 3/8” inverted flare fuel line.

I’m old enough to say this was the norm for cars too, when I first started.

If you go this way (steel line), what would the barb fitting be for ?

I personally would do AN line as flash did...you have to buy the whole fitting to replace the inlet on the carb and then AN to NPT for the pump and make up a line---done. I would go -6 AN at a minimum...just my thoughts. I don't like barbs and clamps in a fuel system personally especially on a boat...high vibrations can cause leaks or start sucking air at the barb pretty easily but that's just a personal preference. You would probably have 30-40 bucks in the AN setup depending on how fancy you want to get lol

I must have been confused, my intention was to use the A1 rubber hose that I bought from Napa the other day. Based on your previous reply I thought you meant that the 3/8 inverted flare hose barb would work and is readily available at parts stores so I could hook the rubber line to barbs on either end and clamp..

I think the confusion is all on my end, I don't understand the parts needed, Acronyms (NPT, AN, etc.) which is obviously important so I know how to proceed...

Really appreciate everyones time and help!!!!
