As far as I can tell the choke works correctly. I had someone rebuild the carb so I can’t be sure that there wasn’t a bent spring. Also my motor is from 1987 if that helps with anything. Original carb as far as I know.

Upon closer inspection, I found the first new needle and seat kit, the hanger spring was bent, probably in shipping and did not allow the needle to go up and down correctly in the seat. Thus making it leak and stall motor after several mins if ideling. Does your choke work correctly ? Most Quadrajets made after 91-92 have the newer tapered bottom plugs. Also, if you are running alcohol laden fuels, you should run a brass float. Look at Mikes Carburetors web site, there is a lot of information there on carburetor repairs.

thanks Bondo. I was actually looking at the 1410 as an option. I wasn’t sure if using a plate to adapt the square bore to spread bore would have any negative implications.

That way, you can use Merc fuel lines, linkages, 'n brackets,......

Merc didn't use holleys, but did use the Quadra-jets, 'n then the Merc/ Weber AFB carbs, which are an exact carbon copy of the Edlebrock 1410s,......

I have used the adaptor before with no issues. But seriously if you are looking at a square bore do look at the Quick Fuel. They are so adjustable and use virtually all Holley parts so finding things like jets are very easy.

Ayuh,..... No adapter necessary with the Edlebrock AFBs,.....

They're dual pattern carbs,.....

the 1410 says it’s a square bore on the product page.. I guess now I’m confused.
Edit* what’s an AFB?

Bolt wise, they are dual pattern, but not throttle bore and base mounting wise.

If going on a 4 hole top factory quadrajet intake manifold, you need a 4 hole to 4 hole like Edelbrock sells and Mercruiser uses.

Gottcha, so I still need an adapter to convert between the new square bore carb and my original spread bore intake.

before spending a lot of money do yourself a favor and replace the float (if it is original it is 33 years old and composite and they do go bad) and make sure the float level etc are correct. q-jet is a great working carb when all is right. had one recently in a '78 Z-28 that had the same problem, ran good but flooded at idle. new float fixed it.

still trying to decide if I want to have it rebuilt or replace it with something that’s going to be easier for me to work on and tune. I was trying to find the numbers on the quad today and I did see that the body is a reman from 2007 according to the sticker on it. I mainly want something that will crank over easier and not have to worry about leakdown or replacing Welch plugs every few years.
