purchasing a 41 Apache with 588 ci blown with chiller currently running only about 3-4 lbs boost. Has #6 drives so want to pump this up what is a safe boost level with intercooler using 93 octane was thinking 7-8 lbs. Also rev limiter set at 5400 intend to increase to 5800 since 650 lift cam. thanks in advance.

tks

Find out what the static compression is. There might be a reason there only running low boost. The static compression high.

Are these engines injected or carbed? also you should know what the pistons are ( flat tops, dished or any combo of the two? and if they have eyebrows and if they have been cleaned up., and ring land depth. As said above they my be set at a lower boost for a reason! JMO

was told has 8:1 Compression and also told low boost just so now issues. buying boat because has #6 drives old boat had TRS so ready to hit it understanding there is some risk there. not sure on pistons but they are old 800sc motors compression dropped new pistons and rods Merlin Heads dual 900 carbs CMI headers 650 lift hydraulic cam 114 separation. Told has original pulleys on it so thinking with lower compression explains low boost.

tks

Mercury 800's had 7.5-1 compression . So when they were done over I'm sure they increased it . so if 8.0 to 1 you can definitely run more boost . Just try and confirm the compression . see if you can get the piston specs.
