Stellings extension box questions

I have Stellings boxes like the pic on my new to me boat. Are the drive shafts bolted directly to the flywheel or is there another splined shaft in the assembly? Hopefully that makes sense. Will be yanking the engines soon and want to get it ready.

Mine bolts directly to flywheel.

Peaking inside mine look like they do as well. Just wasn't sure what the entire assembly looked like. Thanks!

In your picture, there is a gold "hub". In my application, the hub is bolted to the flywheel and the u-joint 4 bolts bolt directly to it. So, yes, its direct to the flywheel. Metal to Metal. The key to these boxes is to get the carrier aligned with the driveshaft and keep it good and tight. Once its dialed in they last many years. There is a company that makes that gold coupler out of a polymer called Globe Products - but I never got around to installing one.

In the jet boat world they call that a crank "button", bolts thru the flywheel then the flange for driveshaft bolts to it. Once in a while , you'll see where someone leaves carrier bearing out and uses a long shaft from imco and a coupler, I think "KAAMA" MARK SPERLNGS AT was like that

my boats been w/ the long shaft for over 15yrs.even made some money back selling the carrier bearings to a couple of guys that needed them badly.

My engines are moved forward and I have a longer driveshaft on mine, but it is still basically the same setup and bolts directly to the flywheel.
800ish hours that way. I grease the bearings, splines and U joints every Spring.

Thanks for the replies. Seemed simple enough looking at it but I wanted to make 100% sure so I was ready when I pull the engines.

I'm sure I will have more questions in the future, as I would like to put offshore front mounts in over the winter as well.

Great info, as I'm the proud owner of (2) Stelling boxes now! What is the purpose of these plugs on the bottom, I pulled the forward 1 and it's not a drain?

my stelling boxes for bravos don't have any plugs.some one must have added them for their application.
