Sorry I can’t answer your questions but you may want to delete and repost the watercraft certificate of title after editing again. You’ve done the right thing to obscure personal details but you’ve missed a spot down the bottom, of the certificate.... oops 😬

Good catch, I think I fixed it. Thank you!

coast guard started requiring HIN prefix starting november 1972 and this has a pre '72 serial number. that would mean that the title is incorrect and was probably done years ago based on an owner telling the title office what he wanted it to be. also the ad is from 1969 and in the coast guard registry there is no seabird industries which would lead me to believe they were out of business before the end of 1972

I was actually just starting to dig into the Hull ID number on the titles/documents, and any lookup/database that I'm finding requires a 10-12 digit HIN number. This entire thing is a giant mess. I'm really hoping that Don's son will email me back and be willing to help ID this thing. Seems like every time I get a lead, it's a dead end. All in good fun, I guess. Thank you for this!

prior to nov '72 serial numbers were whatever the builder put on them. my v-drive is a '70 and is 7010162 which means the 62nd model 101 in 1970. so as you see they are just whatever which is why they required the 12 character HIN after nov '72. does not mean it is not a '73 as it could have been built late in the year of '72 and titled as a '73 but again I dont find any info on the coast guard registry for seabird industries.

If I may be frank (:D) many people have and will continue to try and sell their boats with a false affiliation to Don and the buyers are left chasing ghosts in the belief ( I wanna believe sooo badly that Don either touched or built my boat) that they have some rare and little known Aronow product when they don't.
If that is a real SeaBird (and I believe it is) then the only connection to Don is that Harry Shoell designed them AND the original Magnum 27. It's a SeaBird and nothing else !
I wish it still had the original windshield on it , but it's a cool boat with a little historic connection.
Don't waste your time driving other people nuts trying to find out that it's something that it isn't.
(No offense intended)

Incidentally , I have a friend who some years back was really green at all this stuff who bought a boat sight unseen and based on one black and white photo that was advertised as an Aronow Cigarette prototype. When the boat arrived here from 1000 miles away I was stumped.
He got damn lucky as it turned out to be one of a very few Donzi bench seat Hornets that were made.

I don't have my hopes up on this being an Aronow project boat. I was just trying to find hard proof that it is or isn't. I know the chances of it just being another run-of-the-mill Seabird are far greater than it being anything special. I was just looking for any documentation showing either so I could show him.

It doesn't hurt to try. You never know it may be that one in a million. Happens everyday. Good luck with your search.

The problem starts when sleazy , dishonest sellers put a Cigarette sticker on their Bayliner , Larson or whatever it is and concoct a lie that it was an Aronow special and rare , even unheard of , in the attempts to dump it for the highest price possible.
The buyer's brain then goes into overdrive putting him in a search for a truth that'll never be .
Fortunately with a site like this there are people who will be able to get to the bottom of what will become unpleasant news for the new owner.
