Texas Winter Killed my 8.1

The artic freeze we had here in Texas claimed my 8.1 Volvo Gi 380hp. Insurance isn’t covering it. I found a 2017 8.2 430hp long block, could I swap my intake and accessories, grab a tunable pcm and it be that simple to be back on the water?

TIA

If you did a pure long block swap no tune would be necessary assuming cam and compression are similar.

Just swap and go??
8.1 - 1,8,7,2,6,5,4.3
8.2 - 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2

There is going to be a large market for blocks this season

Yeah, there were 4 boats on my dock that died.

Easiest way, get a 8.2, Delco EST distributor and put a Edlebrock 1410 carb

I think this would be the way to go, and get it now, it will be 1600 more because of no core
Could sell your heads to get some back

Can you use the heads?

If so, you can get a forged short block from Raylar for like $5500. If you are already in there, do the cam and rockers and you have a bulletproof Mag HO.

Also, scour Craigslist, offer up and eBay for 8.1 496. I have done the swap with used truck short blocks TWICE. The only difference is the bellhousing bolts were SAE, not metric.

Theres several on eBay right now. Maybe even a local U-pull and pay junkyard.

MY buddy used Michigan Motors for a replacement small block a few years ago. He swapped intake and carb, accessories, flywheel and bellhousing. Out and back in before lunch if I recall correctly...

Damn...that sucks.

I know that BOATU.S. and other maritime organizations always show the 'southern states' as the ones with the highest freeze damage claims, due to the typically milder winters.

I'm assume the block and/or heads cracked? Damned freeze plugs sleeping on the job or what?
