Default Crossing the streams

I have a Bravo X drive and want to switch from the HP 90w gear oil to the Extreme HP 85w90 gear oil. Is just draining all of the green oil completely adequate? The label says not to mix different types so I want to be sure it’s ok to have whatever remains of the old stuff or if I need to flush it out with the new stuff? TIA

Mixing is literally mixing decent amts. Doesn't say anything about contamination and having to thoroughly clean out or etc.

I’d drain the HP as you normally would , maybe let drip all day, and refill with the extreme.

Mercury Racing Gear Lube 85W-90 1-Quart #8M0078015
  • SAE 85W-90
  • For use in Mercury Racing gear cases
  • Do NOT mix with any other gear lubricants
  • For use with gear lube pump 802891K2
  • 32 fl oz plastic bottle
Mercury Racing Gear Lube was designed for outboard and sterndrive racing applications. This gear lube provides maximum protection against: • Water intrusion – advanced emulsifiers protect gears if water enters the gear housing • Wear – tackifiers and pressure additives improve oil film adhesion and protect against excessive wear • Horsepower loss - prevents horsepower loss and won’t break down when gears reach high temperatures

Recommended for use in Mercury Racing outboard gear cases including: Sport Master, Torque Master, Fleet Master, VI SSM and IV SSM and Mercury Racing sterndrive applications including Dry Sump Six,NXT6, SSM, NXT, Bravo XR, Bravo XR Sport Master drives and NXT transmission assemblies.
