Oh, got this off Holley website and from reading it seemed as though it was a suitable place for PCV hose. Where would you suggest is a better location for hose connection? Ive not pulled the rocker covers yet, from above comments realise i will need to in order to install a baffle for PCV. But think i may need to remove exhaust manifolds first to do that in order to reach the rocker cover stud nuts. 👍 Thanks 👌

That’s exactly where I would connect PCV
Did you verify no baffle under any of the grommet holes?

Perfect 👍 there are no baffles, I've had the rocker covers off when the engines arrived to check inside (sorry, I can see from above comment that that would be confusing, I've not had the rocker covers off since the problem started but have had them off before and so can confirm there's no baffles already in them) I'll have to pull one off and weld some sort of baffle in there.

Thanks 👌

I thought this was cold oil issue , tried to remedy with smaller coolers etc , could never get it figured out . bugged the $hit out of me for a couple years.
Once the motors were rebuilt it all went away.
My take on it is the engines were way too rich (bought it with afrs in the 9`s)
I called them choo choo motors because they had a bunch of blowby due to washing out the cylinders.
Somehow the blowby caused this ? Thats my take on it

Haven`t had it since and the oil still same low temp.
Lake Michigan is cold a$$ water till middle of summer usually .

Thinking out loud- are you running oxygenated fuel? , I see that up to E10 is allowed, are the engines running that rich that they are washing fuel past the rings?

IF he's getting that much ring wash then the engines will definitely need to come out to check the cylinders and get new rings installed, too.

A leak down test would help answer if excessive blowby is part of the cause, wonder what the plugs look like?

We are getting some "sooting" on the stern but I've spoken with the previous owner who has been great at keeping in touch and helping where possible who confirmed that there was no sooting on the stern of the boat that they came out of at all. We also have a good 10 minute run at idle (max 5 knots speed limit) from the slip to the sea and assumed that this may be contributing, I'll pull the plugs to check them out. I have no bungs in exhausts for checking AFR's. Not done a leak down test but compressions were all good 👍 yes E10 is now our standard (well at least is filtering through) standard 95 RON.

How about adding oil catch cans if the motors have no PCV system? Are the valve covers the same ones the original owner ran or did he swap them with something untested? It looks like your octane is 90.7 is that enough, is the motor getting rattled ?
