Mine is a pretty simple recipie that is pretty tried and true.and built by many around here. started with a 454 mag fresh bottom end, 8.5:1 je plower pistons, 731 cam, walmart roller lifters, 177 blower and dominator, and AK Racing aluminum heads.

(you would be surpised at what you can get from walmart by putting the part number in the search bar, they work with a lot of 3rd party venders)

And now for the disclaimer.... You came on and asked a cam question, thats the equivalent of smaking a drunk chick on the ass around here, all sorts of **** is going to happen and balls are going to get broken.
(we also speak fluent sarcasm around here)

At least you didnt ask about oil or say you were having a Bob Straub custom cam ground.......

If you want info on the heads or anything else in my build just let me know.

I made that mistake about talking about oil in one of my vintage cars. I ain’t gonna do that again. For all I know they’re probably still talking about it after two years

It was suggested to me to use the crane cam 168741 but it has a lobe separation of 112degree. To me it doesn’t seem like it would give me what I wanted. Don’t ask me why I want it, I just want it. I don’t usually drive over 30 or 35 miles an hour if that’s any help. I have the bravo one outdrive. It gives me goosebumps when I hear a boat motor that has a fast title and a ratty sound. Not knowing as much about camshaft I would like to hear what you guys have to say and any other recommendations. If the cam 168741 from crane is what I want, then let me know because I’m driving myself crazy. Thanks
Jo. My suggestion would be to find out exactly what it is you've got there before you change anything. What is the history of this? What did it start out as, What year is the boat? Is the engine the original with just a blower added? Stock M/C manifolds? Stock pistons, heads etc? What is the CR? You state you know it has stock rockers I assume they're stamped steel, by that I'd also assume it wasn't really put together to handle a blower.. Who built the engine? Talk to them. Otherwise you can at least pull the valve covers and degree the flywheel to find out what's in it now. You're not likely to get any knowledgeable cam recommendations if we don't know what you have.

Hey guys, after all the great comments that I have I decided to leave well enough alone and just put on the sounds of surphen on a continuous loop on my recorder. I get what I want for free.

I have a question, my mechanic wants to put a crossover on my engine and illuminate the water pump. After reading past comments I can’t seem to get it to a final answer so I thought once and for all I will ask a yes or a no type question which probably doesn’t have one. Should I put a crossover pipe on my 454 with my 177 blower? He says that in Florida we really don’t need a thermostat but he highly recommends The crossover pipe . Before I order one I want your advice. Should I or shouldn’t I?

Your mechanic should not be fixing what is not broken. Crossovers are tricky with flow and pressure.

EDIT... NO
