Engine stalls stalls when put Into gear!

My port side engine drops rpm and dies slowly when I shift into forward, 90 fountain twin carved 509 with bravo drives imco uppers. Happens to one side only! Any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a friend who had this same issue earlier this year on one motor. His ended up being a bad fuel pump. Not sure if that is the same in your case, but its very easy to diagnose.

I’ll guess carved = carbed ?
New problem ? Was it running fine all this summer and then this showed up ?

What have you checked thus far ? Do you know how to check timing and clean out the carb ? Check/replace spark plugs ? Etc, etc ?

probably so SB, I didn't know what a carved 509 was

yes carbed motors, I just bought the boat and got her on the water yesterday. Timing was set few days ago by a local reputable shop. Boat sat for over two years prior.

has electric pumps. Pressure is same on boat motors looking at the gauges

did you pump out all the old fuel ? Id think those carbs would need a bebuild with old gas setting in them for 2 yrs

didn’t pump out all fuel, was told it was winterized properly! Not much fuel was in there I just put in 94, being the highest fuel pump fuel we got up here in Canada, I’m thinking if it’s bad fuel wouldn’t both motors be experiencing same issue?

Why not try switching carbs?

What rpm are they at in neutral and what rpm when put in gear?? What kind of carbs??
Probably just needs the idle air bleeds adjusted or maybe just the idle rpm.

Two years of sitting for Holley carbs, the carbs will need to be pulled apart and cleaned. Easy peasy.. I do 5-10 a year. Just one last week. Ski boat, sat last year. Week before 502 w/BG 850. Litte over 12 months ?

Make sure that shop set timing by total timing method, not initial. Performance motors with spring type centrifugal advance some times are already advancing at idle.

Make sure you use red straw and blast both ways thru the top air bleeds 4 per side. 2 are idle and 2 are high speed. Some miss this for some reason. Watch your eyes, carb cleaner will squirt back at you. Compressed air after doing this is better. As after spraying thru (both ways) all holes in metering blocks and bodies.

Best way go set idle mixture screws are in the water, engine fully warned, and in gear. Typically best idle in neutral will need screws opened (counter clockwise) another 1/8-1/4 turn.
