Hi All, I have a Mercruiser 350 Mag with a fuel problem, rpms won’t go high and it keeps popping fuel pumps relays. I decided to replace the filters again (I had already replaced the fuel water separator filter and bottom filter) and now I’m changing the pumps themselves. My question is the high pressure pump has its own filter, the replacement kit did not come with any. I read on here that some folks when replacing pumps or checking the system did not have a filter at the fuel pump itself, it’s also not showing up on the diagram, was there ever a change in the system? I don’t want to reuse the old filter as it’s 15+ years old and not looking good and I can’t find a replacement, some folks have said they don’t use the filters but I just want to make sure before going on a filter finding expedition. Thanks for your support.

Are you talking about item 21

Think you bought Merc 892687A02 which doesn't come with the filter screen
If you buy 35-8M0093688 it comes with the filter, O rings and screen

No, not at all.
on the bottom of the fuel pump itself where it sucks up gas there is a square mesh filter, most auto fuel pumps have them, but I don’t see it in the diagram and the replacement pump (aftermarket) did not come with one. The current filter is dirty as can be, I tried to clean it but it’s done. I was told by someone that the new gen 3’s don’t come with that screen filter on the pump itself and wanted to confirm before putting on the current pump without the additional screen.

I know l, how strange. Now there’s technically two filters the gas is going through so I’m assuming its ok but if the cap does delaminate then I’ll be back to square one and then have to also change the injectors. Thanks for trying to help. Still interested to see if anyone has comments on this. I would post a picture but won’t let me yet.
