Default Cable gland grommet fitting for trim indicator cables

Has anyone ever tried or used any type of sealant in the cable gland fitting grommet where your drive trim mechanical indicator cables(about pencil size) go into the back of the transom?
I know they should work, and I have new ones but just wondering if a little sealant of some type might make it less likely to allow any leaks especially as they get older and you have movement.
Tried to attach pic but didn't seem to work.

I didn’t use any on mine during my k-plane cable replacement. I replaced seals on both when I did the job. There was no sealant applied to the cables at disassembly.

I have not had to replace the drive trim indicator cables

If the rubber fails and it moves , the silicon you put on now will just tear , and leak. and boat will sink at the dock . K plane failure , been there , done that.

You need better bilge pumps and batteries if water coming in around that cable sank the boat

was left in water by the marina. lighting and bad storms so nobody was around to fork it out. and battery did keep up to a point. but it filled the boat to above the cranks. and water was in cabin. till they pulled it Monday.

Decided not to use anything. After looking at the fitting and grommet, its a well made, machined, smooth, heavy duty fitting. I presume the cable needs to be held in place also, so dry grommet is only way to go.
