Pushing the spark plug leads between the header, any trick??
On my 454 with CMI headers, really easy non-issue just push.
But on my HP500 with factory headers, I can barely touch it, I reach under and push with my thumb. What tricks or tools can I use to push it on, so I feel the click? And with new mercury wires, do you ever have to adjust the clip inside so it is tighter on the plug? I feel the click, but they feel slightly loose when on. |
use a small amount of dielectric grease, I have 6 or so that are a real pita

I’m guessing you have Gil exhaust on the HP500. They stuck to do plugs on and it’s all by feel. I just put new Merc plug wires on my engines with CMI’s. They all were pre greased. Just used a Qtip to spread the grease around better. None felt loose when installing them.

Thanks very much guuys! Never used dielectric grease on it, that will make it easier. (and yes they are the GIL headers)
I have seen these pliers advertised, anyone try anything like this? Here is the description: Spark Plug Pliers by Lisle support two pulling positions that help make removing spark plug wires a safe and comfortable job. Its specially shaped, cushioned jaws grip the boot straight on or from the side. Plastic handle grips of pliers help prevent shock.
