588 Blower Motors Cam Choice
All
i am having to rebuild my Apache motors they are 588 CI with B&M Mega Blower running 6 lbs boost twin 900 CFM carbs. Current cam is UltraDyne 245/256 @.05 and 650 lift 114 separation. should i go a bit bigger. Rev limiter set at 6000. thanks for your input |
Is that a solid or hydraulic roller?

Comp cams marine grind, easy on the valve train . 4/7 swap microfinish I`m running 548ci, 9psi |
Just curious what the bore and stroke are
What heads and stroke and desired peak rpm.
Like that cam you are using just little more lift which is nice
not sure on the bore and stroke but will check i was told it was 588 putting brand new Brodix 327 BB3 Extra 400 @ 6000 Max 6000 know i probably don't need larger but love the sound big cam. think the new heads will pick up torque versus the old Merlin Cast Heads Any more input much appreciated. |

Probably 4.560 bore and 4.5 stoke.
If OP plans on pulling to 6k best have more duration. .650 lift max.
I have 4.25 stroke 565 CI cams spec’d 249/253 6k peak. Heads 347 cc out flowing 340 cnc promaxx heads via Jim v. just a comp
If it is a 4.5 stroke, it could use more cam
588ci is a 4.5 stroke and 4.625 bore.
i,m thinking time for a pair of 14-71s and bigger carbs
thats a 604ci
The OP does need a blower that moves more air more than a cam change.

Any one want to guess horsepower with slightly bigger cam? Lift is .704 net - 114 lsa. Spec’d to peak @ 6k and carry to 6,300. Heads flow approx 10-15 % more than the promaxx 340 cnc version. Should make 750 @ 6k. Possible more if the heads perform well allowing to peak out at 6,400 and carry from there. You should have a torque monster with those heads - int runner. The lobe family from comp that icdedppl used would something to consider especially if your going SC. I’d just step up the duration a few degrees with your stoke and CI. Or the same. With superior flowing heads you can ease on the duration and let the heads do the work. |
Tks Dynoed at 850 at only 5200 rpm due to old ignition and just 4 lbs of boost now has MSD 6A set at 6000 hope to top 900 with new heads cam might add another 20 what's your thoughts.

Just went back to OT. Mega blower great blower but personally wouldn’t put on anything much more than a 502. But yes I get it…. All comes down to lots of $$$$

588 Blower Motor Upgrade
4 Attachment(s)
All wanted to share my recent upgrades on Apache motors HP Mafia rebuilt them only change is going from old heads which where Merlin cast iron to Brodix BB3# Extra and slightly bigger cam app. 680 lift versus 650 results to me are crazy especially the torque and all at 5400 RPM
Top HP 931 Versus 830 Torque 1001 versus 871 That's using old school B&M 420 which i am sure leaving HP on table. Want to thank Anthony and his crew Greg |
Very nice
