Bravo drive -left hand rotation

Bravo drive -left hand rotation
I have a friend who has a Profile with a left hand rotation Bravo 1. I was wondering if it is possible to change something internally in the drive so that it now becomes a right hand drive.
Has anybody done this and if so please tell me how
Thanks,
Dave

Bravos dont care which way they turn,,,, you can change the direction it turns by changing the cable location at the shifter and put a different prop on it,,, but nothing has to be done to the drive.

I just swapped rotation on my twin bravos and gained 1.5 mph.
All I did was swap props and put the shifter in reverse for forward.
Had to keep my s&^^%% together when docking, HA HA
My point is .....it's a cheap way to try opposite rotation to see if you will gain anything without the hassle of changing the shift linkage.
What are you trying to gain by changing rotation?

Bravo left hand rotation
I am aware of changing rotation direction on Bravos. I have a pair myself. There are, however Bravos ( or gearsets ) manufactured specifically for left hand rotation. At least that's what I was told. The gears are cut differently. The only advantage is that when engaged, the drive will engage in the lower position as opposed to the upper which is normal for left hand. This may keep the drive a bit cooler as all gears are better lubricated when underway. I think this theory manifests it's self in testing. The port drive will usually run a bit hotter at the top than the starboard drive when props rotate out and port drive is running in "reverse". This has been my experience. I believe IMCO and Teague make reverse rotation gear sets. Maybe the Bravo Shop too.

Never heard of that for the Bravo!! You are sure of this? It seems that gear production for this purpose would out weigh the benifits. Cost/use??
If this is the case, well we learn something new each day..Thanks!

The reason he wants to change is for easier access to a variety of propellers. For example my Baja is RH rotation and I have six different props. It's just easier overall when it is a RH rotation. Only two single engine boat builders do this--Fountain and Profile.

the only way to make the "lower" gear the
forward gear, for l/h rotation would
be to have the driven gear in the lower unit
behind (prop side) the drive gear.
the upper unit wouldn't need any mod's.
never heard of this being done
i have seen some past threads on this,
with people mentioning handling issues
when changing to r/h rotation on specific boats
that were propped l/h.
like OPIE272 AND obnoxus said,
install a r/h rotation prop, run the boat,
shifter will operate bassackwards,
if you like it, simply change the cable
location at the shifter.
good luck.

NOTE, WHEN TRYING THIS, PICK A DAY WHEN YOU DONT CARE IF
ANYBODY SEE'S YOU, POSSIBLY, CRASHING INTO THE DOCK

I've seen "left hand" modified Bravos as well. The way I understand it is that the upper cap is reinforced heavily and uses longer bolts in it to better deal with the upwards thrust.
Seems that Teague offers their hopups in right or lefthand options.
Imco, I think, beefs up top and bottom thrust faces and once again, it doesn't matter anymore.
Don't think there is any difference at all in the gears themszelves since everybody is using Mercruiser part #s for their hopups (except Bmax).
