Couple things that were build specific. Light cat and no way to hold wfo for long periods without ending up on a mountainside. Wanted to accelerate very hard like a sprint car. The HP500 that I had put in the boat would accelerate to 84gps very quickly. With a little help from my friends here, I'll get to where I need to be.

The chart I posted has been around a long time. I've posted it several times over the years. I would use it as a reference and not as a bible.
It was on the Weiand website which is now part of the Holley website. I would say its probably conservative to keep people from pushing limits and to keep people from blaming them for failures. |
Now that I see there were issues with the engine builder and dyno shop I don't feel bad about my next opinionated comments.
I believe that Jim Ford's dyno service was irresponsible for letting an engine leave their dyno shop with those BSFC and AFR's. He!! going to 38° timing was pretty reckless. They did not tune the engine for its intended purpose and you deserve your money back. This is not an 1/8 mile drag car for 6 seconds. JMO |

I sometimes see where someone brings up something even I stated in 2004 or 2006 that I firmly believed in at that time or seemed to work for me and now 15 or so years alter I have evolved and learned from more experience. I can almost guarantee if someone called ghellner up today and said "I want to run my roots supercharged bbc at wot at 8-10 psi of boost on pump premium at 13-1 afr IN THE BOAT " he would say its a REAL BAD IDEA that wont end well, Smitty |

JMO I know the dyno operator well and I an sure he only did what the engine builder told him to do and if the builder is who I think it is he is a drag racer -car builder |
Does everyone agree it was actually dyno’d??? I kinda doubt it from what I’ve read.

Im pretty sure it prob was dynoed BUT he did NOT get his moneys worth, a unsafe/un usable tune with stupid lean afr#s? You could maybe get away with those numbers in a race car for 7 or 8 seconds at a time but never in a boat although most boats go much richer IN THE BOAT vs dyno, especially when going from dry race car headers to wet exhaust |
Heres ANOTHER thought to ponder, not to beat a dead horse on these AFRS BUT, I have 10 02 sensors on my dyno, 8 pipe, 2 tailpipe. Out of ALL the BBC's I ever dynoed, Jason Dykhouse/ "Rookies" was ONLY one that had GREAT distribution cylinder to cylinder as far as AFRS, it was actually sorta disappointing in a way since he had full capability to tune them perfect individyually with his coil on plug and individual cylinder trim BUT we were only about .5 .6 afr points apart best to worse due to extensive work done to his heads and intakes by a expert head porter, we tweaked them a little to even them up more. On ALL other big blocks Ive dynoed, bar none, there is NEVER a AFR "delta" less than 1 point and with carbed stuff with junk ass dart intakes and vic jrs everyone seems to love, (assuming non fire swap cam), I almost ALWAYS see 3, 3.5 POINTS from richest to leanest. So, there will be a cylinder at 10.9 and a cylinder at 14.2 at wot best to worse. So with all the stagger jetting in the world to get that 14 or sometimes 15-1 cylinder to high 12s (NA), you have pig rich cylinders. Blower motors arent typically 3, 3.5 points apart BUT usually 2, 2.5. So point of this, IF a guy has a TAILPIPE afr of this "dreamy 13.3-1" there would be a cylinder or 2 well into the high 14s, possibly even 15s. THOSE 14/15-1 cylinders make great christmas presents for your friends that SMOKE, IE- ASH TRAYS!
