Zz572 camshaft in a 502?
#2
1) Way too much duration for a 502 running wet exhaust (reversion). You would have to run dry pipes all the way out the back.
2) Power peak will occur around 6,000 rpm. This means that you will be WAY below the torque curve when trying to get the hull on plane. On a heavier boat, this means the boat will be pretty sluggish getting out of the hole. On a really lightweight hull, that won't be nearly as much trouble. Some guys who run high pitch props run air vent hoses to allow the prop to intentionally cavitate in order to spin up the motor when planing. This introduces a torque spike to the lower unit when it does regain its bite. Also, I'm not a huge fan of hydraulic lifters on anything that spins 6,000 for lengthy periods of time (I'm not inviting an argument, but with unmodified factory oiling I wouldn't run a juice cam on a BOAT motor that has a power peak at 6,000 rpm).
When you ask a question. It is helpful to know as many of the details as possible.
"What" are the specs of the particular 502 you are considering stuffing a huge cam into?
"What hull" would this be put into?
that sort of info..
