Oil Filters
Anyone using this filter in place of the Wix 51222R. Looking for something with a lower micron rating but that will still do the job. The specs look about the same.

Eddie Young built my motor and he said to use 51060R (61 micron with drain back valve). The motor is not in a dirty environment like a auto

Damn, you have the 1-1/2" thread? I guess all of the cross reference places are wrong. I believe we ran those in the race boat. It was a pain finding filters for the non-standard BBC filter head. I believe we ran a Fram filter. I'll see if there are some still laying around.

Ive seen some Baldwin filters go down to 9.8 micron...
Just wondering why you want to go so small? |

now i'm really confused....... Everyone has opinions, mine is, I like better filtration but with a high volume oil pump its moving a lot of oil. Reducing the particle size may reduce flow (don't know). Going smaller may need to use 2 filters in parallel to keep the flow up |

After doing a bunch of research the Fram HP6A seems to be the best filter for the bigger 1.5"-12 filter threads. 20 micron rating, 20 psi relief valve with a screen, thicker metal. The standard filter by Fram is low quality cardboard, however this one seems to be built he best.

I use the Donaldson P550832 from Amsoil. It has the flow of the racing filters and super fine filtration, the best of both worlds.

Saw another post on FB that compared micron rating, flow rate and pressure from an episode of Engine Masters where they tested a bunch of them. I used to run the Wix Racing 51222R and switched to the K&N HP-5001.

now i'm really confused....... I'm also have high volume pump pushing 75 psi at idle when all warmed up |

We use Mercury racing…nothing fancy. Probably overpriced for what they are. But we’ve never had an issue. Knock on wood

Someone on here did a comparison with pictures of a Merc filter vs. Wix 51222R.
Tear down of both filters. They are exactly the same filter. Different sticker, different price. |
makes me feel warm and fuzzy that it says Mercury racing on the label!!!!
