Trailer bunks repair
 

Would like to redo the trailer bunks but wondering how to get the boat off the trailer for a couple of days?

Was thinking maybe I could rent a slip at my local marina for a week or month but not sure if they would agree?

Other option would be to put the boat on stands but that scares me to be honest. Worried if I would not support the hull in the right places, stability on the jack stands and also the procedure itself is daunting. Has anyone placed a 25ft boat on stands?

Make the new bunks ahead of time. Removing the old ones and installing the new ones should only take maybe 2-3 hours.

Last time I changed out trailer bunks, I'd made them up well in advance, had all the stainless hardware ready to go, etc. So when I went on vacation, I put the boat in the rented slip at the resort, got up early one morning and replaced the bunks. Was back in the room having breakfast about 3 hours later...had to replace (4) bunks. Wouldn't have taken that long except had some trouble with the old rusted hardware.

So the idea of a rented slip would be a good option.

I always wondered how those boat dealers placed their boats on those stands at the shows?

Yeah...I mean, I can't even think of HOW one would go about putting a boat on stands, without some sort of Travel-Lift.

it involves getting the keel and corners on jacks at the transom, floor jacking the boat up between the cross members and pulling the truck forward, lower the floor jack and move it back, jack it back up then pull forwrd to the next crossmember or axel.
eventually the boat will be up on 5-6 jacks and the trailer will just pull out.

reverse to get it back on, big fun and i mean BIG FUN doing it alone.

Do it on a weekday. You could have plenty of room and all day to work on it at a ramp here on the great lakes. Bring a torch or air tools to cut off any rusty bolts if needed.

I did my 27’ Powerquest at home in the pole barn. Jacked up trailer and boat together. Supported boat on stands and blocks then let trailer down away from boat. Had bunks all ready made, slid old ones out and new ones in. Raised trailer back up to boat. Never pulled trailer out from under boat. I cut a v-block to put under rear of transom and used screw jacks and blocks in strategic locations. Made me nervous but it worked.
Leaving boat at lake better option if possible.

Easiest by far is measure them up, cut to length, wrap with carpet at home, take them to the ramp. My trailer uses lag bolts, bought new hardware, put the boat in the water, told the wife to go for a ride, I have 12 bunks and it took me 1 1/2 - 2 hours, very easy

Not too bad of a job. I've done it a few times by my self. Lower the front of the trailer all the way down, Put stands/wood blocks under rear keel and chines, pick up front, roll out trailer, put stands under chines while you remove trailer, block the front keel. :)
