Default Gimbal bearing grease Seal

Just pulled my old style greaseable bearing out and putting in the newer style perma greased ones.

do you guys knock the inner seal out when switching styles? If so do they pull out from the back or do I just knock them out towards the front/coupler?

part of the reason I’m asking is I broke that damn lube fitting that’s made of plastic and thinking being able to reach through the Transom Assembly might be easier. I’ve removed the old one but getting that e-clip back on is going to be unpleasant with the motors installed.

love how a simple stretched shift cable can immediately turn into bellows, shift cables, gimbal bearings, etc….

One more question - do you guys put them on dry ice before installing?

I didn’t last time I did them but that REALLY helps when I’ve put bearings in ATV/Dirtbike cases

I don't think the seal has a step on the engine side. But its been awhile since I've been into mine.

Did you break # 1 or # 5?

I broke number 1. Ended up just leaving the grease seals. Got to the fitting from the inside but it was a terrible experience. The only way it could have been worse was if I broke the one on the other motor too. WHICH I DID LAST NIGHT ABOUT 10 PM. Luckily I had ordered 2 of everything and hopefully can salvage my July 4weekend.

new gimbal bearings, new bellows, new shift cable. Hopefully I’m done for the season and can enjoy a bit of reliability.
