I agree! You said you are looking for a 38' wave crusher right? Here you go. The Scarabs are nice boats but one has TRS drives.. no thanks and the other has 502 mpi's with 522 hours. Sutphen boats are amazing and I am a big fan but they are dated looking and I think the resale will be tougher. Buy the right hull and engine and drive package. All the boats discussed and listed have dated paints but this subjected and could easily be changed with a wrap or some paint work. Again my vote is a Cigarette. The rigging is superior to the others with a proven rough water hull and when it comes to resale it will bring a bigger audience. Cigarette is often imitated never duplicated as the ad says.

I agree with Pagraig, hogieroll, and 4195. Drive a Sutphen before you buy. JMO and 8 years driving one, the boat handling, the speed, the solid yet quick manuverabiity whether at speed or just cruising is sooo predictable and solid. They were designed for offshore racing conditions. Also the ease of moving around the boat with the wide gunnels even makes all the difference, everyday, all day when tying fenders or tying up. The hatches to the cabin are much easier to go through, at least on my 2000 32ft they are. Some other boats may be as good. A Lot are Not.

If i can find it it will attach a 4 page test that Boat Test Magazine did on this boat, the 32 Sutphen.

Where are you boating usually, conditions, driving style, speed your looking for? That will make a big difference in the hull and hardware needed...

There seems to be alot of 39 Sutphen's getting stripped out and sold for parts... #6 and arneson boats -- why is that? I was told that they get squirrely above 85-90mph -- i've never been in one

A friend of mine has a 39 sutphen for sale on facebooks marketplace.

The cig is the slowest unfortunately, aside from the straight bottom formula. A step scarab or formula sells for a similar price and will blow them away.

having been in a few 382 formulas and scarabs…they don’t ride nearly as solid and smooth as a flat bottom gun. sure they may be faster…but OP was looking for a wave crusher. Also show me a stepped formula that’s less than 80k.

Markets a little warm still but 2 382s and 4 353s under 90k on BT.
