I found this from a post many years ago on this site. This is still available and comes in several settings including 215 degrees. I think this is the best way for me to go? I believe I would plumb from engine to the filter then to this thermostat then cooler then back to the engine? Thanks for your comments and help.

Smoke and Dr. I was busy researching when you posted so I didn't see your responses. I agree that it should be installed per the instructions it's just that in the end it sends cooler oil to the filter and I believe that the consensus is hot oil flows better through the filter. With my last post I found something that I believe allows me to plumb the way I understand it should be? Thanks again for your comments.

If you're using a multi viscosity oil (15w-50, 20w-50, etc) then the oil should have adequate flow characteristics regardless of temperature. I think you're worried about a non issue.

You might be right about that. I do have a tendency to do that. My concern is that according to this site I will be installing (2) grenades and really want to do the best I can so that doesn't happen. Thanks again

I think I may have bought 2 items that don't work together. The sensor doesn't really tighten up it just bottoms out in the fitting. Also there's about a 70% blockage when the sensor is installed into the fitting. Is this ok?

that sensor is not designed for that fitting, why would you want to introduce restriction in an oil line

I now have new questions. I am convinced that the filter first is better than cooler first. With that said, I have attached a few pics of my engine right after I removed it. Looking at the oil cooler plumbing From Mercury can you tell if it went to the cooler or filter first? I can't find my old block adapters and don't know which is "in or out".
I sent an email to a couple places and they said the plumbing drawing I posted here is "just like Mercury does it" Also, do you guys think running the oil through the cooler against the direction of water flow is better than with with the water flow or no difference? Thanks for your help. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...eefb4d9607.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6aa2ccc3a5.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b6438ed267.jpg |
You and me both however I may be more dangerous because I probably know less. Thanks again

F-2, I found out that the fitting was for a gauge and not a a sensor or sending unit. I did buy the correct fittings since then. Any opinion on post #81? Thanks for your comments.
