I think we are going to start seeing some cool builds very soon from guys starting with the 8.8L PSI "R" blocks. They have a forged crank, 4.5 stroke. I believe it's a 10.24" deck height. This is the LS big block that GM designed but never actually put into production, now PSI has the rights and is producing it for industrial applications.
8.8 Liter - Power Solutions International, Inc. (psiengines.com) ?? |

Nice to see specs on Deck height?
So as 87Mirage said should be 10.24" They are hashed over in this thread if you missed it. https://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/...ter-550ci.html

I’m not sure they’ll take off, maybe if they are dirt cheap. You can’t put as much bore in them as a dart big M.
Most already nearly despise the 8100 or 496 in the marine world as oddballs and their differences compared to the Mark IV, Gen V, and VI. |

Supposedly based on the Gen 7 8100. Utilize a bigger bore and stroke over the 8100. They bought rights from GM is the word.

Especially if the PSI are non-siamese. So 4.350" max bore more than likely. PSI makes 2 types of the 8.8L. One is built like the traditional Gen 7 BBC, the other is the LS version with a different block and heads, intake etc. The injectors go into the head on the LS version.
I believe some of the PSI blocks were built by Dart, not sure if all of them are. The PSI block is a lot more stout than the GM version of the gen 7. I know guys are buying PSI core engines off Ebay for under $2k and starting to figure these things out. Arizona Speed was involved in modifying the PSI intake on the LS version to get the runner length correct for marine applications. Even with the PSI camshaft that was super low lift and designed for industrial low HP, it turned over 500HP on the dyno. So these things will turn some good numbers once the formula is figured out. But as said earlier the gen 7 is the redheaded stepchild so even if the PSI platform works out it will struggle to gain unanimous traction from the purists. |

I think they could be cool if you can make decent power with stock or near stock heads and intake, would be a nice budget combo. Also would be sweet for power in a truck.

What have you come across as far as the blocks being different? |
The LS style gen 7 block is very different as you can see below.
