Hardin gen 7 sea water pump

Hey guys !

i just ordered a complete gen 7 hardin marine stainless sea water pump for my 496 . My question is since its going to be assembled already by factory do you know if they lube the housing to prevent wear for the first start up ?

when putting them in, i usually just put some dawn in there, then the water will take it right out. dawn also helps slide on the hoses.

thanks for the advise ! Sound like a really good option 👍

+ 1 on the Dawn use. As to whether or not that new unit would have lube of some sort...I sort of doubt it based on past experience with other pumps.

Ok so dawn it will be ! Thanks guys 😊

Use the Dawn soap idea. Besides it should have water running through it in about 5 seconds or less. A lot of folks do not realize how much water sea pumps push through.

i have read on sea water pump and i have come to the conclusion that i am not the only one having problem with pumping water with the external hose … i had to hit the throttle to get it to pump effectively… maybe my old pump was so bad that it did not help … plus my bearing totally busted with water leaking from pulley …

That housing is junk. That's why you were having issues.

The Hardin will take care of the wear issue with the replaceable plates.

If you aren't aware they are what I call, sort of partially assembled.
You have to reuse your backplate where the hoses connect, and they have a stainless wear plate that goes in between the pump and your worn back plate.

I agree.

But on the contrary mine are in the same shape as his and have been pumping water fine the past 6 years.
I've had the Hardins since and just getting around to installing them for this season.
I did some bearings and seals in one of my OEM pumps, while I was waiting on the Hardins.
Got it going and put Hardins on shelf.
New impellers every other year.
Figured this year throw them on.
