Roller rocker wear
I’ve got about 4-5 hours of run time on the new motor. Would you expect to see wear marks on the roller tips this soon? They all have wear mainly on the outside edge of the roller.
Thanks |
What brand are they ?

Comp Cams Pro Magnum

They're supposed to be new rockers, but I'm not so certain which is why I ask. They were the same ones I had in the motor originally.

Why does everything look dry
|
It could be my eyes, but I'm used to seeing everything soaked in oil after running.
|
It was a little milky condensation from sitting so I wiped them off.

And you think the milky substance is due to just sitting ? or is there another issue.
|
I think it's just from sitting over the winter - not too concern with that. I just fired it up for the first time this spring, so I could take another look but my assumption is that oiling is good.
I guess to hone in on my question. I'm questioning if the shop that did the rebuild actually put new rockers on. The wear after 4-5 hours seems excessive and sort of like they looked before. They had issues getting the Comp ones and told me they were going to put Crane ones on. I opened it up and sure enough it's the same Comp ones I had beore. However, maybe the found a set of Comp rollers. The wear marks is what's making me question it and I paid for new rockers. |
Is this still the build from the guy that wouldn't respond to your questions or is this the 2nd builder? How many hours were on your engine before the rebuild? In other words, maybe the question is, do these "new" rockers look like they have several hundred hours on them?
|
Sounds like they told you a story, if you paid for new Crane ones and they aren't on the engine they owe you what they billed you for, Im sure they never thought you'd open it up

Yes, that is the question I just asked. Would you expect this wear out of 4 hours run time? |
Not really unless there is an oiling issue, is there milky on the dip stick

Doesn't look like you're getting a lot of oil to the rockers. Maybe there was some debris left in the block

Try pulling the one rocker that looks the worst and see if you have any corresponding wear on the valve stem where it contacts....If not then id say its just re-used parts.....otherwise there may be something else to investigate.....maybe debris in the oil from the fresh build still going around the motor??
