My dad who just retired from that trade came up with "creative" ways around things....once made his own floor safe that used a magnet to unlock it with. it is a standard merc retainer. the set screw held one in. the big nut is bronze. dremel did the trick. then hammer and punch to loosen it cuz bronze wrench flats don't stay flat very long. so now i am down to the typical frozen on prop even though nut and retainer are off. wreck the hub with a torch puller or cutoff wheel or both.
I guess it’s the prop version of the McGuard wheel lock. Without the stupid little wrench, you can’t get the prop off. Or a Dremel.

The little setscrew nut dropped down inside the prop when I knocked it loose. And it doesn’t want to come out. I’m sure it will later if this lower unit ever ends up running again.
