Is it the same as an automotive one and the engine coupler will bolt up? I have to look I don't remember but is it a flywheel or a flexplate? I assume its a flexplate like found on a auto transmission vehicle?

Marine uses a Flywheel. Use same diameter you already have.
Unless you have a top mount starter, you use one for an automobile.

flex plates are for auto trans.

This is correct. no flex plate, flywheel. Some newer boats have a tranny, nothing like a car though.
