Love my Daytona Sensors ignition. First time out this year, it started right up. Let it idle for a minute, put it in gear and you would have thought I had EFI. I don't have a choke and I don't need one, it runs as good cold as it does warmed up. Once I've started it for the day and have fuel in the carb, I just have to hit the key and go, no pumping the throttle. I know the embarrassment of trying to dock when the engine keeps dying. I was trying to dock in a very narrow ramp on a river with a decent current and a bad ignition module. The people on the other side of the river really gave me the business. My wife was pretty ticked as well. Now I can idle in like dream. Shop around for it, I only paid $450 for ignition and coil.

$450 for ign and coil...used or new??

I've been eyeballing these for a while, but the price seems like I should just go the extra mile and convert to Holley EFI.

The Canada exchange and for 2 engines makes the Daytona a big chunk of change upgrade...but a worth while one at that.

But I do like the reliability of carbs.

The best part of the Daytona is the part throttle and idle advance.

Is there an input for a MAP sensor input for the timing output?

So I asked Joe tonight if he was mild thunder. Yes it is him. We are meeting Friday afternoon to finally get this fountain manageable for me. What a small world and great community OSO has!

I'm gonna be honest I'm not a engine guy. But I did ask John about going holly sniper. And he told me not to do it. To many gremlins. Now with that said he didn't express himself anymore and this was his opinion. Sorry I can't give more of a answer. When is asked him about Daytona sensors he said he has heard great things and the only reason he went msd was cause of support and being familiar with there stuff. Again his opinion.

When I talked with a few people of of OSO they swore by Daytona sensor and then the response I got from the community in here to me it was a no brainer. I honestly hope some more people will chime in for you. If they need to talk about holly sniper please feel free. I think it would be a benefit to the community and just maybe someone else on the fence would find this thread and be able to make a informed decision.

I wish you the best in what ever route you decide to take

I stuck with Carbs and the Daytona Box. Largely my issue was that I still have mechanical fuel pumps so I would have had to convert to electric FP’s, and I don’t have Oxygen Sensors so I would have had to pull the tails and send them off to CMI to have Bungs drilled. None of that was a ton of work, and I might go back and convert, but for the time being spending 600/motor on the Daytona’s was a no brainer and would pair nicely with the Sniper’s if I ever got there. It’s funny that there aren’t a lot of converts on this website - it certainly gives me pause.

I don't think the Daytona Sensors is very well known, or at least eclipsed by the MSD name.

Add the fact that most people like to use tried and true parts.

When you add up the changes and parts to go efi...it adds up quick.

I just happen to have O2 bungs...so that helps a lot.

I have 420 Blowers, with 2x 750s, so MPI is harder for sure, and I would not want to run 2x Snipers per engine.

Likely the best scenario is a good Wideband O2, with a quality Daytona style map'able timing curve, and tune to a healthy cruise rpm. Not be as focused on perfect wot efficiency...not there for long anyway.

Running Arnesons at the dock with a reliable low rpm would be better all around.

Daytona Resale value should be good as well.

Daytona Sensors I believe are the guys that were behind the Crane HI-6 boxes. When Crane was changing ownership they went out on their own and built the CD-1. It is a tried and true product, just under a different name. I believe the Crane HI-6M boxes were the best marine ignition box ever produced.

I sold my Carb HI-6M setup and went full Holley multi-port EFI and it is amazing.

He has been an OSO member for a very long time and used to post a lot and gave great tech info. He got tired of some the typical OSO drama and has not posted much for the last couple years. I wish he'd come back and start posting more again.

I have a Crane Hi-6 that came on my Formula 233. Will have compare them.

Hoping it's still functional. Would be great as a spare.
