Lifespan on Bosch 4.9 02 Sensor

Exhaust risers are dry to transom.
AEM Uego kit Installed in 2019. Sensor never came out of riser and I monitor af/r while engine is running. I have power to gauge/sensor wired off a rocker switch on dash. AEM states to never operate engine without power on gauge/sensor.

I have read others opinion to not power up sensor before starting engine. Idea is a hot sensor porcelain is hit by cold engine start condensation and slowly damages sensor?

My gauge started showing full lean yesterday. Will replace sensor today. From reading online it seems I got my moneys worth from sensor?

What's everyone else's experience?

This makes no sense. What about the bazillion cars running wideband? They don't seem to be suffering at excessive rates..

I've gotten about 8 plus years running full time in a marine environment.

You could pull the sensor and free air calibrate to see if there is any life left. I've done that as per the Innovate instructions for the sensors I use with them.

Curious what the plugs looked like at full lean.

I get about 2 seasons out of a sensor on my 496HO with the bung in the same place as yours.

Thanks for the replies. Will replace sensor and keep on keeping on!

1 Attachment(s)
Moisture in some boat exhaust kills sensors faster then in cars, two years is pretty good though, I use these Innovate directional HBX-1 3729 protectors when tuning customers boats on water, the sensors last alot longer:
Attachment 577696

I also use this in my motor.

You're both correct. You don't want to pre-heat the sensor and then hit it with cold. So they are usually wired in to the fuel pump circuit so they are only on when the engine is running, not just when ignition is on.

Seems there is a very small sweet spot...don't want then off when running...can't have them on and too hot when starting.

A lot of Marine engines are using wide O2s at this point, why is there no marine O2?

Fuel pressure, activated...you mean when using a mechanical pump?

Would wiring it to activate with oil pressure be a better solution?

Adding manual O2 sensor switch to the pre/post engine running would remove a lot of focus that needs to be elsewhere.

Innovate protection bung, does it still get accurate readings?
