Hose question????

Hi all, quick question.
I traded into a 1991 Baja bandit that came without motor and most of the out drive.
no big deal I think I got the better end of the deal as to what I traded it for.
anyways, today looking it over I saw these 2 hoses and outlets mounted to the transom near the exhaust outlets and am wondering what they were/are for???
is it possible this was one time a dry exhaust and they routed the water through there or am I missing something else?
also while we’re at it, I decoded the serial numbers on my outdrive case and accord to what I found it says it’s a Aplha 1 gen 2 drive?
surely that’s not factory for a bandit is it?
if so how hard would it be to switch everything over to a bravo 1 if I wanted?
I included some pics so you all can see what I’m talking about.
I circled it in red.
thanks

definitly for dry exhaust those 2 hoses !
to switch to bravo, you are going to fill in the transom ( read redo transom) and cut hole for bravo making sure sure X dimension or the height of your drive will be perfectly at the right height to be able to plane, and reach the best top speed possible !

Measure twice...
Cut once!

Thank you sir.
kinda what I figured.
im sure as I go along I’m gonna have more questions.
again thanks

are you sure you run an alpha drive? not that many dry exhaust on small block, and i would guess it was a small block because of the drive...
and if you want to use a bravo, i would think you would use a big block, and the exhaust holes won't fit either because of the larger block...

That’s a bravo transom assy.

The most noticeable difference is the shift linkage on the alpha,
It’s not there, just the cable that sticks out of the bell housing on a bravo

I had a 91 bandit, cool looking, fast, fun boat, ride wasn’t great unless you were on relatively smooth water, due to the 15* bottom

According to my serial number off the housing.
the numbers are as follows,

hope you can read that.
I get OD491601 it’s off a 1991 Baja bandit.
unless it is not original it was added later.
and yes I’m going to use a big block.

Why wouldn't it be factory? Stock 250HP engine. A small-block Alpha combo will live.
To go from an Alpha to a Bravo I believe you just need buy all the Bravo components. Coupler, transom assy, bell housing etc.. And drill the 2 extra holes for the transom assembly and install. No big deal since the engine is already out.

Tom272Baja 08-27-2024 07:07 PM

I guess I wasn’t aware they ever factory made a small block bandit but I could be wrong.

Here is a picture of an Alpha 1 gen 2 transom assy, notice the shift shaft running down the middle of the exhaust cavity?……. the one on the boat doesn’t have that, it’s a bravo

Ok.
the things you learn.
that’s very interesting and makes me happy.
so in that case when I do get a out drive for it will any bravo 1 fit or do I look for certain generations/years?
