8.3 whipple vs 1271/1471 blower
What are some thoughts on the two types. Cant decide which route to go
|
icdedppl did a great write up going from roots to 8.3 id look into that thread
|
EFI Whipple for the win..........the newer 3.8 will make big power also
|
Whipple for sure.
The idle bypass valve helps quite a bit at idle. I`d only use it 598 and up in ci. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...cbe7620e6e.jpg |
Not a 8.3 but a 4.5 Whipple on a 7 Liter LS. Don't think a 8.3 is warranted the new Revs of Whipple's are more efficient.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...14e0dc8bfa.jpg Definitely Whipple. Newer Tech and features Not a 8.3 but a 4.5 on a 7 liter LS 1325hp/1160tq. a stout piece for a new project. |
I used to have Borowskis build my engines and dynoe there back in the day till Ken went all gay for LS everything .
|
Dont know how well that two stage pump mounted that high will perform

As for Gay Ken he is following the money. LS is better these days to a BBC. I have to agree so that is why there is a LS in my future. LS 1325hp 427cu/in. to old BBC 570cu/in quadrotor 1400hp. plus the weight. got them both just in different platforms. Have to say the 4.5 Whipple is taped out on the 427 @1325hp running 18000rpm@21psi with meth. It can not run a 570cu/in plus at that level. Even a 5.0 or 8.3 is the same supercharger just run from the opposite rotor. 16000 to 12000 rpm I think is maxed out as well on bigger cu/in motors. |
If you do that Id be curious to know how long that LS last at those boost numbers and HP.
That`s going to be significantly more cylinder pressure since the displacements isn`t there . |
It is a trade-off for displacement vs boost as you know.
The Teague 570 quadrotors are 1400hp @ 14psi. This 427 LS is 1325 @ 22psi with spray. This boat will only be on inland lakes and rivers so no way to hold it wide open for long. It will live its life in the 40-90mph range. Initially it is propped for 135mph @ 6800rpm's with slip..Weight is not an issue. This is the 28 foot hull ready for rigging in Havasu. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...fec04ed3ad.jpg |

i would give up a hundred horses because i hate the loud siren wail of the whipple vs the much softer whoosh of a big roots blower

You are exactly right. That is where Ken had it mounted and he is not a boat person, it is going lower. Totally wrong for a boat.

I miss that sound ! My 8-71 screamed just the same. 10-71, 14-71 and 8.3 Whipple were all way too quiet. Cant wait to have that sound back again with the 4 liter i`m getting. |
I heard my Whoooples for the first time when I put the mufflers on........:drink:

nice looking setup, what would the total cost for what is pictured be?
The current base price is on the Borowski site at $45,000. I had this LS put together before that price increase. There were a few upgrade, dry sump, solid roller cam, T&D rockers, CMI Headers sea pump, bigger head studs, Better Sealed Holley system with screen. Alway polishing cost more too. I heard it run on the dyno and no screeching sounds like some say. It seems a little quite for what it is. Maybe due to the serpentine belt. .Anything that I had cog belts on always whined. |
looks like more than a few upgrades,if you don,t want to reveal the total thats ok.

That is about $35 per Horse Power. The last couple hundred cost way more than the first thousand HP. |
