CoolFuel Module

Guys,

So which CoolFuel module do I have here? Came off my 2001MY 496HO. Looking to put it in the SwapShop, but I figure I need to know which one it is.

Thanks. Brad.

Looks like cool fuel 2. I have the cool fuel 3 with dreaded paint issues

That's a cool fuel 2. The 2 uses the spin on fuel filters that look like an oil filter.

Yep, count your blessings...
Its still a dumb solution from Mercruiser though... They wanted to design a drop in solution for OEMs and didn't want to have to integrate with external components.. I understand the desire, but coming up with poor designs to avoid it sucks.. If they implemented a fuel return line instead of a closed system, they could have completely avoided the cooler requirements.. A lot of people move away from the cool fuel setup and add a return line to the tank. Its not a necessary change, but I think if I was going for a performance build, I'd consider it as you can implement an adjustable FPR as part of the change.

AShipShow,

Oh, we've completely ditched the entire fuel delivery system, from tank to intake manifold, with the entire component entourage mounted on the transom; pump, filter and regulator (the cooler is where the CoolFuel module used to be). We are not running a return to tank, as there was no convenient way to do so. But running a return line back to the filter head works as long as it's not susceptible to heat soak from the engine. With the return line only returning cooled fuel back to the filter head, once the air is purged/consumed, we should be good.

I was primarily asking here so I knew how to list the CF module for sale.

Thanks. Brad.

Are you looking for a price on what yours is worth? I don't think the module as a whole is worth very much as people generally just replace the pump or the regulator when they go bad.

Ryan,

Primarily, I was asking if the unit in the eBay link was the same as what I have.

Thanks. Brad.

Merc does not sell just the pump any longer, so you have to buy the entire unit for about $900, but after market pumps and regulators are available for about $200.
