500 efi starter motor replacement part number

I’m replacing both starter motors since motors are out for rebuilds.

50-8m8021116 is the part number for the 500efis

that number is coming up as NLA. And listing

50-863007A 1 as an alternative

does anyone no if there is as any difference between the two or are they in fact the same.

Thanks

I don't know anything about the 500 efi starters, but when I have a starter go bad and I can't find a replacement, I have a local shop rebuild them for me.

Give BAM a call and ask them...they show it as active on their site: https://mercruiserparts.com/8m8021116-starter-assy
Not in stock but the number is not listed as NLA...

You can find marine starters as good or better then Merc for 1/3 the price......dont buy an auto starter

Why are you replacing starters? If it’s not broken don’t fix it…just my opinion.

I do change parts before they break...
peace of mind...!!!

the motors are being rebuilt
starters are 20 years old and if one goes you are pulling the motors to change them.

The old ones work perfectly fine…..until they don’t

to each there own…but the 20 year old qoute can be applied to the whole engine. Injectors, sensors, ecm module, coupler, fuel pumps, etc. are you replacing everything…if so it might be better to buy new engines?

just never heard someone rebuilding an engine and putting new starters on?
