Electric Fuel Pump Installation Question
I’m trying to solve a hard starting problem after my boat sits for a period of over 1 week. I’ve got a 454 mag (1993) with the Weber carb. I just purchased a stock Mercruiser electric fuel pump with the hope of solving this problem. My question is does anyone know weather the wiring harness that would be on my 454 would be the same on one that would have the electric fuel pump?? My hopes are that there is a plug hanging there for the pump and just not being used? I have yet to have the time to visit my boat due to it’s in storage to see if I’d be so lucky. Anyone else make this upgrade??
Thanks
Thanks

I wouldn't think there would be accomdations for an electric pump. When you wire it in, be sure to connect it through a low oil pressure cut out switch that has a bypass for starting.

Use a $5.00 auto relay wired from the ignition switch to apply battery to the pump. This way you can fuse the pump seperately and not overload anything in the engine harness or the ignition switch. DO NOT wire the pump up directly thru the ignition switch.....way to much current flow. This is how my '93 was wired and never failed. The electric pump did solve the starting problem also.

Blown Formaula, I was told just to leave the mechanical pump in place that the elctric fuel pump with pull the fuel through. Was yours setup the same way??

Brian, No, I did not leave the mechanical in place. I removed it and blocked it off. You certainly do not need it with an electric. Be sure to use a regulator though.

Do you by chance have any or know of anywhere I can get instruction with a diagram on installing the fuel pump?? I certainly want to make sure it’s done right!
Thanks Brian

Sure, call Aeromotive @819-333-7300 tech line.
Ask them for a wiring & flow diagram for an A1000 pump including the relay wiring. I'm sure they can accomodate you easily. Even if your pump is not the A1000, it will wire the same.
Aeromotive- them's the good guys!!
