In my experience, slow steady pressure works better for removing sealed parts that a sharp blow from a hammer. If you can get a porta power or even a long prybar on the inside and push, it will start to loosen and move.

Thanks

Padraig,

Turned out to be WAY overkill. It just came right out. But it sure made it easy. I was expecting it to be a “cinch it up, wait, cinch it up, wait, cinch it up”, rinse and repeat ordeal. Nope. Just started turning the nut and it pulled loose. I like those kinds of battles.

Thanks. Brad.

I am definitely doing that on my old boat brilliant idea dude

496blower 11-22-2025 04:09 PM

I will let you know how it goes as I was a little cra-cra with my use of 5200

496Blower,

Thats where that “cinch, wait, cinch, wait” is prolly gonna be the thing. But that’s the awesome thing about this “puller”. Give the nut a twist and let it sit.

FWIW…. I’m planning on reinstalling with 4200.

Thanks. Brad.

Good idea

Corsa sent my old ones back to me, but they have new flappers and they’re PRETTY!

Now I just gotta get the old sealant/adhesive off and get them back into place.

Thanks. Brad.

Outstanding. Solution...
My tips look like those
I have the swirly things in them

Wildman_grafix 12-12-2025 09:14 AM

I have dry to tip with SS rings, and gaskets. The gap filled with 4200. Wish it was that easy.

Brad Christy 12-12-2025 04:37 PM

Guys,

Getting ready to reinstall these, using 4200. What do we use to clean up the overage? I don't think I want to use acetone or MEK like the tube suggests. It says to not use alcohols, as it will inhibit curing. Kinda wish I'd read that before I installed the bracket and bulkhead fittings for my steering conversion....

Thanks. Brad.

Smitty275 12-12-2025 05:39 PM

Mine was put together with a regular rubber gasket that goes between the flange and the transom. They seal up great. Boat is 38yrs old and transom is as dry as the day it was built. I'd find the proper gasket before gluing everything together when you don't have to.

i have used a plastic razor blade followed by acetone, then wipe with fresh water soft cloth.
i also use blue painters tape to ensure the 4200 only goes where i want it, once done you can remove the tape and GENTLY fair the seam if its standing to proud on the tape edge,
SLOW and steady

Mineral spirits

Wildman_grafix 12-13-2025 09:27 AM

What powerboat said. But acetone doesn’t seem to bother the gel.

just wax good after.

BoatNT,

And mineral spirits for the win. Worked great.

Thanks. Brad.

Looks like I'm a little late on on this one, but these worked great for me 4" Slip-On Silent Seal Flap Assembly. Hopefully this helps out the next person that has to do this.

Omg worked like a charm, thanks for the idea

Even with 5200 on inside and outside sucked it right out, cranked it a little bit let it rest a minute crank it again then rest and out she came, didn’t even cut the 5200 on the second one I did, anyone need 2 , 5 inch thru hulls with GGB exhaust mufflers, will be putting in for sale shortly

496Blower,

Yup. It’s just your basic gear puller concept. I obviously WAY overbuilt mine, but I didn’t know what to expect, didn’t want to have to take a second run at it, and it didn’t take any longer to build one way stronger than it needed to be than it would have to build one not nearly strong enough.

Glad it worked out for ya. :ernaehrung004:

Thanks. Brad.

496blower 03-15-2026 08:15 PM

Well I did screw the pooch on first try, used a piece of stainless ready rod and tightened it down and CRAP nut galled on threads, got the cut off wheel and zipped it off and used anti sieze on threads and came out like butter, thanks again as the last time I did this it went badly and basically ruined a set of thru hulls.
