Exclamation Mercury throttle question????

On the four handle Mercury Zero effort throttles in white, is it possible to change out the red sections for white as well?? I am wanting the controls to be totally white. I have tried to find out from Mercury but have had no luck. If anyone knows the answer please let me know.

Thanks

The center "circle" of the controls is merely glued on. used a solvent to soften the glue and carefully peel it away. clean, make white disc's and reglue them...... now as for the larger part.... you will find two screws under the center disc. remove them and the red part will come off. Powder coat it and reinstall...... I bet this is correct for the zero's. It is for the Kiekoffers (sp?) on my Formulas.

Paint will not stand up ton the controls I don't think, so do the powdercoat (unless it's plastic (ugh)!!

The decals are actually held on by double sided tape. I know, same difference Could also consider a polished SS disk there.

The red housing is plastic, so doubt the housing will make it through the powder coating process of 400 deg curing temp.

thanks Blown Formula.

I'll be ordering my controls from sterndrivespecialists soon. they are the wrong color.
They said i could paint them. but the controls could be different.

Curious, why wouldn't a light sand job and good eurathane paint not stand up on plastic.

I'm not a painter and am only curious.

Steve, On the durablility issue, I think it is more a bonding issue than anything.. There are some hard durable paints out there. I suggest going to a automotive paint store. Pick your color and then have a quart put into spray cans!! Ready to use, no thinner required. But you may have to get clear coat too. George

George, thank you.

the guy that rents part of my building is a painter. He is going to paint the controls for me.

I use a 3 part paint on my lower units. I thought it might work on the controls also. what do you think?
