Ran a set of 97s 330 MPIs from about 950 to almost 1100 with no issues. One ran a little hot with the thermostats so I pulled them and it was fine. May have been time for risers. Fresh water motors at LOTO. Pushed my 330ss to almost 60mph. Very strong. Will probably need shift cables around those hours too.

Highly recommend black motors. 500EFI cam seems mild enough to be similarly long lived.

They need cylinder pressure to seal up correctly.

Yeah the 496 went off the path.

GM was geared up to make a med duty gas engine for their trucks in 2019. Covid ended up killing the plans. Was going to be a true BBC LS style design.

Now that we've seen the issues with the LT engines...maybe it was a good thing they killed it.

With Diesel prices I am glad I have a ford Godzilla gas motor. What is the issue with LT engines?

For what it’s worth, the boat is still with the original owner who bought it new in 97. To me it gives some level of reassurance that it has been cared for. I’m figuring it will need the engine refreshed at some point and I’d probably do the bravo at the same time unless it needs more immediate attention.

How concerned should I be about the risers/manifolds? Boat has always been run in fresh water.

With the EPA mandated mpg limits...engine manufacturers have been trying to run water for lube to get better mileage.

The bearing tolerances need to be super tight. The machining tolerances were not matched to the needs.

GM's solution was to increase the oil to 0w40.

The deactivating lifters are failing as well.

Compared to the LQ4 iron LS2 family, they were reliable.
