prop for 27 Fountain

jce-68,
To answer your question about re-working your prop...the answer is no you cannot get anymore pitch out of the prop. Generally you can get up to 2 inches of pitch out of a re-pitch but that is the max.
Have you tried the Hydromotive that you have? It might be helpful in acquiring some baseline numbers. Let me know and we can help you with props styles and pitch.

rjcardinal,
Is your Hydromotive lab finished or stock! I am not surprised to hear you say that the Boat porpoises with the Bravo ! It is a bow lifting propeller and that is a common complaint. There is a possibility that your Hydro can modified to help with the planning issue. Let me know.

Thanks for the input!!!

I called Hydromotive direct and that was the question they asked me.
Since I'm running WOT and flat water, most of the time, he told me that their prop would not work for my boat! The Hydro doesn't give the bow lift that the Mirage does!
Surprised me, an Honest answer to an Honest inquiry.

Darin is correct in that the pitch gauge will give you the pitch only on the radius of the blade which is measured. Depending on the design of the prop the pitch can change depending on the radius. In order to get an accurate pitch meassurement of the entire prop one should use a computorized prop measurement device, such as the Hale MRI or Prop scan. To get the same measurements with a antiquated pitchomter would take the technician hours to accquire the same information and far less accurate. The computerized systems can measure rake, pitch diameter, angular position, cord length and many other aspects within .001 of an inch. Utilizing this system allows us to re-pitch propeller to an extremely high tolerance. Technology at its best!

THATS SOMETHING,I just reworked a Bravo one that someone repaired with a prop scan machine /the real key is anyone can buy a 60,000. machine but sure as hell better know how to use it /they didnt.oh they had all the fancy read outs but not real sure about that and they started with the wrong dia.
Technology at its best only if you know how to use it.

Well put Darrin...you are correct about tech knowledge! It is so important to use a reputable shop. In our case having invested in the unit we have had our technicians trained extensively on the MRI! I would also add that Darrin is correct in that you should probably have the prop pitch checked to see what its pitch really is prior to decisions on working the prop. You need to know what you are starting with.
