Question about Exhaust tips
 

I have read all the posts here in the past on tips, here is the data I seek.

I am curious about two things?
1. Brand of tips, description (pictures welcome), cost if you care to share.
2. Most imortantly Internal flaps or external Rubber Salsbury's. OR Both?

What are everyones thoughts on possible reversion in comparison to what they run and why. Will the external Salsbury be enough protection alone? The set up is Stainless Marine, SS risers on a 2001 stock 502Mag.

I look forward to everyones responses, I am researching this for my own data, I have my new system, so I am hungry for everyone elses data and thought on the whole "tips" deal.

I have both on my 312 with no mufflers......just tips. Took no chances, had no problems. Stock exhaust.

No mufflers either, gutted tips custom from Corsa.

Thanks, that is the type input I am looking for.
My new tips are externals only, I think I will be fine.
Just want the OSO crowd to give me some data.

I am running Stainless Marine manifolds with dry pipes, They dump water in the tip at the end so they are still water jacketed. I have Gaffrig outlaws for switchable mufflers. I am running about 700 HP through them. No flappers, I just make sure when I come off plane I switch them on - no problems yet after one season. Cost for outlaws for 2 pair was about 3K

Mine have both, external rubber flappers and the mechanical metal ones just to the inside of that. Stock / factory set up on the boat.

Have considered removing the external flappers but have not done it yet. Anyone with thoughts on their removal?

I have the Teague I think they call them 480's. I have internal flappers and also have externals that I put on (hand tight) if I am stopped anywere that the waves are up. They work VERY well and so far I have nothing but GREAT things to say about the product and service from Teague.

I think they are running around 980 now

More great data, thanks, Ray I have viewed you boat several times in the past, very impressive rig...

To clarify, my boat came with the 7 inch Corsa mufflers, I ordered exact replacement gutted, I want to keep external appearance stock, they have Salsbury's but no internal, I think I will be fine, just looking for comparison data.

Many say the internals "click" and are noisey, I do find all have one or the other at a minimum, and very few have both.

I've had both types on different boats.

Had externals on tips that had rubber internal flappers. The rubber internals don't make any noise, but also don't last.

Had Corsa tips with internal SS flappers that are counterweighted. The make all kinds of racket at idle to about 1200 rpms, especially with a little more cam.

Never had any reversion problems with any. I think a lot of it is making sure to keep the exhaust flowing at high enough rpms if you've got waves coming in behind you.
