Question Twisted Bravo I Drive Spline

I have a 97' Bravo I that had a drive shaft spline twist just in front of the prop. It is a mild twist that has not gotten worse since I owned the boat(2 yrs.) The shaft is not bent, looks true, and does not vibrate. Boat is a 25' Eliminator Eagle XP, 502 Mag, Procharger M-3 recently installed. Am I being stupid by not having the shaft replaced, or is this something I can live with? Noticed that Cobra had some upgraded units for sale. If this needs to be replaced how much should I expect to pay for a shaft? Thanks in advance.

Have seen them twist so bad you have to cut them to get the prop off shaft. Not good!! Also with your procharger if your propshaft brakes under boost, their is a possiblity of alot more getting damaged if motor over revs.

I would replace it. Once metal deforms, it looses much of its originally designed physical properties. That is, it's weaker, much weaker. Go to Mercruiserparts.com for an exploded view and price. Very convienient web site.

Default Upgrade

Does anyone have a recommended, proven upgrade for this issue?

The new X series has a larger diameter prop shaft. As far as replacing it. Pay me now or Pay me more latter & not including being down in the summer.

Hi Pantera24-650HP,

Junk the Bravo and get a Pulse Drive! Check out my post in the Tech Q&A with pics. If you have any questions, ask me!
