Synthetic drive oil

Guys, I need your help! I am thinking about changing to a synthetic drive oil. Which brand and what weight has worked best for you? I am running Bravo I drives in 302 Baja with 502 Mag MPI's. any thoughts would be appreciated.

I ran RedLine ShockProof Heavy in my TRS drives as per recomended by RedLine....the biggest difference i noticed was during oil changes you had next to none of those metal dust fragments on the magnet.....and less of the chaulking from the heat on the drive after hard runs.. :D Also when shifting into gear it seamed like it went smoother and not suck a hard "clunk"....not sure if that was the oil taking up any extra play there may have been inbetween the gears or what but it was noticible...

I ran Amsoil 80w90 GL4
last year in bravo 1's, behind
500's.
Drives seemed to shift smoother,
and less chalky build up on the drives,
compared to merc. hi perf. lube.

Here's a link to a thread with 66 posts talking about gear lube. It ended a couple of weeks ago. There is some good info, but no agreement on what is the best to use.

I just mixed up a batch of Torco, Amsoil, RoyalPurple, Redline,Quicksilver, Mobil, and K-mart gear oil.

I expect that it will have the best characteristics of each component and will probably enable your drive to last forever and handle unlimited horsepower.

Give me a call and I will send some right out to you...

I run Royal Purple in both the drive (TRS) and the trans. So far so good. I'd have to check, but pretty sure the drive is using the 75-90. I think MrGadgets also uses Royal Purple in the drive.

Amsoil's 2000 series currently. Have been using Amsoil products since the early 70's and have never had a lubrication related failure. --- Jer

About a month ago we beat this subject to death! I'll see if I can bring it to the top!
