Question ARCO gas in Stock Mercruiser engines

Can or Would you burn ARCO gas in stock Mercruiser MPI engines? I know ARCO gets a bad rap, but it is the boat friendliest station near my house.

Not many ARCO stations around my place in Florida.
I do use Mobil or Citgo. It just depends on which is closer when I remember to tank up.
I don't have an MPI or EFI engine but if you're having trouble with clogged injectors start running a cleaner in the fuel.
I stopped using EXXON years ago for just that reason. I had to use a cleaner in my truck once a month with their fuels.

I wouldn't be afraid to run any brand of gas in my boat, as long as the gas station has regular "turnover" of gas (if it sells a good volume, then the gas in the tanks is not OLD).

With injectors, you can either wait until your idle quality goes to crap or use an injector cleaning additive in your fuel. If you wait till the injectors become dirty, you may be able to use an injector cleaner dirfectly thru the fuel rails, but if not, you will need to have the injectors cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner.

Bottom line is I use cheap gas all the time, and top off with premium fuel and add stabilizer for layup.

Most of the injector "dirtiness" doesnt come from particles in the fuel, it comes from cheap fuel varnishing in the injectors.

As far as brands go, I am not convinced that any particular brand is heads and shoulders above any other - I have a friend who owns 2 Exxon stations (he used to own 10 with another guy, but downsized to his favorite two). He refused to sign the exclusive Exxon agreement, and bought his own pumps rather than leasing from Exxon. With the agreement that he has, he is free to use ANY supplier of gasoline, regardless of brand, at his stations.

He says that he figures 25% of the stations out there have the same agreement as he does. He bids three suppliers against each other for each refill of his pumps.

His story is that he has never been able to tell any difference in any one brand of gas over the others, as long as they were all fresh.

I have an 85 Corvette. I was told it is the only year they did not use self cleaning injectors. I have had my share of problems with the injectors. I've replaced some, and always putiing additives in the fuel tank. I use to buy Mobil gas. A Corvette mechanic told me to use Chevron. The car has never run so good.

Around here, different marinas add different additives to their gas.

One private marina prices his fuel at 15 cents more than it costs him, but the Valvtec additive he uses costs him 4 cents so he nets 11 cents a gallon before figuring personnel, pump and plumbing maintenance, utilities, etc. He usually is 25 cents a gallon cheaper than the public marinas on the lake.

Another private marina club adds nothing. They buy 89 octane (not 87) and sell it for 5 cents cheaper than the other guy.

To my knowledge, all of the public gas docks on the lake add nothing and mark it up 50 cents...
