the boat is a 82 laveycraft supercruiser 23 ft long it has a 454 330 hp and a trs outdrive i dont know what the prop rotation is how do i check its runing at 5000 rpm wot the tag on motor puts wot at 4200-4600 rpm thanks for you time and help
JOE |
Look at the way the prop should turn, or if it is out of the water, hook up the flusher and turn it on, in neutral it will spin forward REALLY slowly. (well, at least on an alpha)

I'd guess trying a 23p mirage.
|
From the number on the prop you gave us it looks to be a 21 pitch prop.....and cleavers arent all that great for everyday use either....probably spins the RPM's up there while trying to get on plane...5000rpm on a stock 330 is pushing it!!...i'd definetly go to a biger prop like the Mirage 23 that was suggested. Best thing to try is find a buddy that has a bigger prop and see if they will let ya try it. Boats all seem to react differently but atleast you can get a good starting point. :D

Joe,
Once again great advice here! I would recommend trying a Mirage Plus 23P. Your recommended WOT is 4600 to 5000. This should bring your RPM down while still keeping you in your torque band. Try to find one locally to try. If you aren't sucessful give me a call and I will ship you one. Keep Us posted! Julie Throttle Up Propellers 877-842-6855 |
A very big thank you to everyone I know nothing about outdrives
had a jet boat this one fell into my hands and loveing it so the jet is gone again thank you very mutch JOE |
You will get approx. 200rpm change with one inch prop pitch changed. Therefore, with a 23p mirage you could expect to run at 4600rpm (400 drop). I would prop your 330hp for about 4800 which would leave you needing a 22 inch pitch prop. Get the 23 mirage like everyone says and test it as is. Then if you don't like the boats attitude you could get the 23 mirage repitched to a 22 ($100). Labbing the 23 pitch could be another good option at that point for a little more jingle.

82lavey
my understanding is the 330's (like my 1988 twins) peak power range is 4200-4600. the 454 mags (365hp?) are redline at 5000. mine are proped at 4600wot . it you take many people on board frequently , you may want to spin to 4800 by yourself. if your "load" is pretty consistent, then maybe set up for 4600. bottom line. trial and error around the best guess (23") let us know |
I dont no if you checked this but make sure you check your tachometer .I had A tach that was off 300 rpm's at wot.
