Naca vents?

Has anyone ever found Nascar style Naca vents that will replace the old rectangle vents that most of us have? I remember a thread a long time ago that someone was going to make some.....did it ever happen?

Audiofn 03-28-2003 06:16 AM

I think I started that thread a while back. Man that was like a LONG time ago. I never did wind up doing anything yet. There were a few suggestions as to were you can get them.

here is a couple of links

Somebody on the board had some NACA ducts glassed into the hull sides to feed the motor. Can't remember who, but when I see his name, I'll come back and post it.

I think I found it!

Do a search on Naca vents and you will find a few topics. I had to do it after seeing Ray's links I could not picture how they would look on a boat. NICE on the above link.

I was hoping that someone made one that would fit over the existing holes that are in our boats tthat way we wouldn't have to glass anything in.....

There's a guy here in Richmond that was making them, and then he didn't get any interest so he dropped the project. I just spoke to him on the phone - his name is Steve - and he's willing to start back up again if anyone is interested. You can email him at [email protected]

Here's one he made, but he also can make the rectangle kind.

NACA is an acronym for the "National Advisory Counsul of Aeronautics" and was the predecessor to today's NASA...

They, of course were involved in all aspects of Aeronautical Science and Aviation and developed one of the largest databases on Fluid Dynamics and flight mechanics.

The inlets, diffusers and ducts you see today on many race cars, boats, and aircraft are decendants of those developed during the pioneering days of aviation and space travel.

Of course, through marketing, costing, and pure ineptness in design, most of the ducts you buy today off the shelf at these "Ricer Go-fast" shops have little in common with the real thing.

Hell, most of them when alalyzed or tested perform rather poorly and don't deserve to be associated with the term NACA...

Choose wisely.

those are exactly what I have been looking for, but wasn't sure what they were called. Now add them to these ram air boxes and you have some nice cool air for the motor, not that stale air.

Vonbongo has them glassed in on his 2003 Pantera in the same place that the normal rectangle would go. I believe Pantera is making them standard equipment from now on.

Von Bongo 03-28-2003 06:09 PM

yes,

As Griff said my pantera has 6 glassed in, 4 in the gunwales beside the engine and 1 on each side of the fairing. Very smooth, look like they were molded in.

If I get over to the boat this weekend I will take a pic

Vono Bono the boat looks great. But where did you get those vents? Thanks Michael:fish:

Niuhi 03-29-2003 09:15 AM

I have to agree and too would like to know about the vents. Are they fibergalss or ABS? Another is are these hooked to anything or just act as vents for the compartment. :) Oh yea and what size exit does it have, 3, 4 inch.

mmwalters 03-31-2003 12:26 AM

Griff 03-31-2003 05:17 PM

Those vents were glassed into their boats at the Pantera factory. Give Jo at Pantera a call. He can probably sell you some or point you in the right direction to get some. I saw Von's boat and I think they are ABS plastic.

Griff 03-31-2003 05:25 PM

Go to the Pantera owner section for more info. Jo just posted about the naca ducts.

Wildfire 03-31-2003 08:04 PM

Jo said they make them and that he would sell them to us. They can be glassed in or 5200'd.

dyno 04-01-2003 07:06 AM

did Joe give you a price? will it come with a template?can one of you guys measure the ones on your Pantera?

O.C.Barry 04-01-2003 10:24 AM

Guys -

Cigarette also sells them as an upgrade to old Top Guns.

Barry

formula31 04-01-2003 10:59 AM

Ive seen them on ebay of all places

Niuhi 04-01-2003 01:20 PM

Griff and Wildfire thanks for the info. I have seen them in ABS but not in glass.

mmwalters 04-01-2003 10:18 PM

Wildfire I will call pantera Thankyou for your effort

i'm actually planning on putting them on my boat. At first i didn't think to much of them but i think it will look kind of cool in a funky sort of way. Theya ren;t goignt o be mounted on the top of the deck liek eth panteras but rather on the side. I had big huge molded fiberglass vents that needed some repairs. Instead of fixxing them and keeping th "80s" look i was either going to have flat panels made then put in the slatted aluminum vents or the nacas.
