Plug wires, yes I did search before posting
If I go buy some plug wires, are the ones by MSD or Accel the same for cars and boats? Both stainless?
Thanks, Tommy |
Not sure on the older boats but the newer efi's have a different connector at the cap and only mercruiser makes them and this connection is very sesitive, I just got done dealing with it
|
on a 1990 4.3? liter merc?
|
The wires them selves are the same. But do remember, you do get what you pay for. Just don't go out and buy the most expensive, fattest wire. 8mm is just fine.
|
So I can go to Jegs, and pick up a set of 8mm MSD or Accel wires and be fine?

Hyper,
I've asked lots of questions about this topic and never really got a great answer. I did get an email from Dennis Moore and there really isn't a performance gain to be made from spark plugs or spark plug wires. After debating about going with aftermarket plug wires and even talking to a rep. from Jeg's, I still ended up going with Merc brand wires. And here is something you don't see written everyday........MERC was actually cheaper than aftermarket from Jeg's. |
where did you order them from? what about a distributor cap for a 4.3l V6? and a water impellor for a 1st gen alpha?
|
Hyper...Hi-perf. wires will make NO diff on stock Ign. save dads money :D
Impeller....Buy the "kit"...includes new plastic housing...Trust me Boat-US...West marine....Overtons... |
Hyper,
I just went to mercruiserparts.com and bought my plug wires there. I don't have any reliable marinas close to me. If you want one stop shopping for the distributor cap and rotor, as well as an impeller, this is the place to go. I'm not sure about price differences but you could also check a few other places as bird-dog said! |
spiral core wires, if buying aftermarket ones.
Merc wires last about 3 or 4 years. |
