Relocating Drive Fill Bottles
The drive fill bottles on the 36 are a real pain to get to. They are mounted on the back of the engine, under the fiberglass lip from the top deck and have the blower vent hose right on top of them.
I have noticed some boats with them on the front of the engines, and recently I saw a Baja 40 Outlaw with them mounted on the fiberglass above the back of the engine where there is nothing in the way.
My question is how to you move them? I drained the drive oil last night as part of normal maintenance and thought this would be a good time to make the move.
It there normally enough hose to move these say 6 inches or so?
Where and how do the hoses connect to the drives, and is it a special type of hose in case I want to move them farther away?
Thanks Mark

I used regular gas line hose when I relocated mine. The bottle is supported by a bracket that bolts onto the gimble plate. On the gimble assembly is a small plastic clip that the hose is pushed onto. There is a little plastic colored tab that you push in to release it. The clip then pulls right off. I used double wire fuel line clamps for both ends of the hose and it seems to sealing just fine. The two main things that you need to remember is that the hose should flow down hill to the drive. You don't want any air pockets. You also need to keep the hose away from the drive shaft. Merc has a bulletin out regarding some of these hoses rubbing against the shaft because they were improperly routed.

I had relocated my bottle and it is closer than it was origanally.
I did notice that the hose was USCG approved "fire resistant".
I'm sure regular fuel line is OK, but if there is a fire, and it burns that hose it will feed the fire gear oil.
"Safety First"????
