Default no water coming out exhaust??

freind of mine went to put his boat in the water for the first time,and no water was flowing out of the exhaust.what would cause this??,bad sea water pump?.i was not there to see this,but i told him i would post this question for him.thanks

Probably so. I had the same prob (boat ran hot also). Put in a new one and it was good to go.

Exclamation Make Sure...

...you pull the hose from the sea pump to the oil cooler and make sure you clean out all of the old impeller pieces. The inside of the oil cooler looks like a honeycomb (if it's stock merc) and the pieces of broken impeller can impede water flow enough to really cause some overheating problems. Just a little FYI

Ditto....pull the exit hose off the impellar housing and pull the entrance hose off the power steering cooler and flush out BACKWARDS with a hose (from ps cooler towards the impellar). If you tore up an impellar, you proabably have chunks of it laying in the hoses.

By the way, did you run it long enough and do you have a water pressure gauge.

Sometimes may need to run for 15-20 seconds or more before the water comes out the pipes.
