Default MerCruiser 575SCI Blower kits

I have stock Merc. 575s in a 2003 Cigarette 38 Top Gun and I want to upgrade the power without cutting the engine hatch. I called Teague about their kit; it requires an intercooler and comes with a pulley and belt. No ECM or thermostat change. It allegedly makes 80 to 100 HP. I then called Arizona Speed and Marine about their kit; it allegedly makes 80 HP as well. It uses a smaller pulley but not a belt. Further, it uses an MSD box, ECM recalibration, and a 120 degree thermostat only. What is the real scoop? Is the horsepower in Arizona Speed and Marine's kit only from the raised rev limiter? Second, I presume the belt in Teague's kit is needed because the intake is taller with the intercooler. But why no MSD or ECM changes in Teague' s kit? Are there any other reputable places to buy the HP parts that any of you have tried and tested? Thanks.

teaque does have to give you a new belt due to the innercooler kit which he just bought the right to from PFM..
No ecm because he can't change it !! Only AZ SPEED and I think Bobby D can ,that I know of .
The Msd and more boost and mixture being right is what makes the az speed go,, with no innercooler
Teaque uses and innercooler to get away with more boost and not changing ecm ,not cool in my idea .I would go with az speed
and be safe
Or nave a local machine shop make a smaller pulley and buy and Msd and send the box ,ECM out to be re tuned add a 120 thermo and hang on tight ,,much cheaper and works

The 575 is only 7.5 compression and 5 lbs or less of boost it needs more for sure ,my cousian had his done it works great

Whipple Cooler Fits The Following:
· Standard and tall deck applications
· Mercury HP 525 and 600 SC engines
· Mercury 575 SCI
· Standard 671 – 1471 roots-type superchargers
· B&M 250 & 420 Mega Blower roots-type
· Weiand 177 & 256 roots-type
· Whipple Chargers
· Universal applications
· Automotive “hot-rod” applications

Suggested retail starts at……………………$2,995.00

You might be able to get it under the deck with a whipple intercooler, I have heard that it only adds 1 inch in height but no conformation on that yet.

I also thought that the 575 had 3.5 pounds of boost?

Go ahead and buy some new drives too. The XR's are already borderline.

I'd leave it be...you got to be at about 90mph now.
Like mentioned above drives become an issue and reliablity also.
Trust me, its not fun fixin **** every week.

Thanks for the help. I called Summit Racing about pulleys. They have pulleys for the Weiand blower from 4" all the way down to 2.75", in 1/2 inch increments, for $90.00. The Arizona Speed kit has a 3.5" pulley. What if I bought a smaller pulley, and ran 110 octane gas and changed the thermostat? I don't want to mess with the ECM's rev limiter if I don't have to. If OK, how small can I go with the pulley. That is, how much boost can I make before I will grenade the engine? I presume the good fuel will take care of any detonation problems. Also, shouldn't the stock ECM pull timing out of the engine if the detonation sensor picks uop any pre-ignition? Finally, why would Weiand make a pulley as little as 2.75 inches? Wouldn't that be overdriving the heck out of that blower. I presume that hte blower is the 250 and not the 177 or 144. What about Hydromotive 5-blade props instead of the 32 pitch Bravo 4-blades I have now? More help, please.

Easy tiger ! what about your drives? I had trip 575's in my Sonic . I blew a drive and an engine in one year doing Poker Runs. I'd leave the thing alone and enjoy.
Good Luck

Byron,

The boat Pay 2 Play at the Lake C PR last year?

I'm running the 575sci's w/PFM chillers and tried the 6 and 7lbs pulley combo's. Went back to the 5lbs...coolers are a nice add (as long as they fit under the deck) but I'm inclined to concur with Byron on the rest. The increased performance is great but...comes with to much baggage. I wonder why nobody has a new throttle housing ass'y out yet...

Yes I owned the Sonic Pay 2 Play. A fun boat but just to hard on parts for Poker Runs. Now I run a cat, They are no doubt faster with less maintenance. This drive problem is the reason I'm going with Arnesons. I did 10 big Poker Runs and the boat broke in two of them.
