Default removing the choke horn?

I just put on a pair of 800 holleys that I bought here on the board, I removed the chokes and am wondering if its worth removing the hornes like the race shop versions of the holley carbs? it shouldn't be that hard to cut them off in a mill......anyone ever done it?

Yea, did mine. Just tape off all you can. Dont know if it made any difference or not. I think it did considering my low flame arrestors. The choke horn had to be blocking lots of air flow to the primarys.

Hi Don,

Have you run with the 800s yet? I think you are going to like them. Mine runs great. I just have to fine tune the jetting a little more, I am getting close, though. Did you remove the choke plates and linkage. I just zip tied mine open for now. Did you solve your oil leak problem?

See ya, Doug

Yea I cut some down but had the carb completely torn apart at the time. Not a big deal. Gains?

K&N also makes a "stubstack" for cutdown carbs. This smoothes the airflow going into the carb. While it's not technically USCG approved, I've seen it done on Merc flame arrestors..
